The Knox Prairie Community Kitchen is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to serving free, nutritious meals to people in Knox County. KPCK serves planned menu meals in a dignified and friendly atmosphere to all members of the public regardless of need. Knox Prairie Community Kitchen began in early 2011 as an outgrowth of The Lunch Spot, a volunteer program that provided free sack lunches for Galesburg Community School District 205 children and families during an extended winter break session.​

Recognizing a food insecurity issue in the community, KPCK began addressing this with a series of free potluck dinners, building on a model begun a few years earlier by The People in Galesburg. Building community relations is an important part of the KPCK mission and in the fall of 2011 a partnership with the Central Congregational Church of Galesburg was initiated. Central Congregational Church graciously opened their doors and allowed KPCK to use their excellent kitchen and dining facilities for almost seven years.​

Beginning with a trial potluck dinner, KPCK initiated a series of twice-monthly free meals in October, 2011. KPCK is committed to building relationships with individuals, businesses, and organizations with a long term goal of bringing the community together. During the past several years KPCK has begun new relationships and strengthened existing relationships; KPCK, of course, always excited about future partnerships.

In July of 2018, KPCK partnered with and found a new home at First Baptist Church in Galesburg. The KPCK are so excited about this relationship and welcome everyone to visit.

We have no religious or political affiliation. Knox Prairie Community Kitchen dinners are free and open to the entire community. We are not serving meals solely to the underprivileged. The only requirement for attending our meals are that you enjoy sharing good food with good people!
